This staff is eager to watch Texas football’s numerous famous early entrants in action throughout practice and camp, as spring ball is just under ten days away. The top five-star recruits from the 2024 class, including safety Xavier Filsaime and edge rusher Colin Simmons, are among Texas’ early enrollees.
Filsaime was one of those important late-cycle additions for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff in the 2024 class before signing day last December. The elite safety recruit from the DFW-Metroplex has the physical tools and instincts to be an early-impact player in Texas’s secondary in 2024.
Adding Filsaime to this safety room shows just how far Texas’s secondary has come in the last few years. A couple of years ago, Filsaime would likely be a shoo-in as a first-year starter for the Longhorns at safety.
Texas’s mantra of recruiting and developing versatile defensive backs who can be cross trained at multiple positions in the secondary means the talent and depth at this level of the defense is in great shape entering the spring.
