The 2024 offseason is shaping up to be incredibly busy for the Green Bay Packers. Stars Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney signed contracts for over $100 million during the first few days of free agency. There are concerns about the depth of the safety, linebacker, and cornerback areas on the Packers roster, which is far from ideal. There is still time before the 2024 NFL Draft, so the Green Bay Packers could make further free agency moves.
For the Dallas Cowboys in 2018, Leighton Vander Esch was an outstanding first-round selection. With 113 solo tackles and two interceptions in his debut campaign, he earned an outstanding 84.4 PFF grade. Regretfully, despite his ongoing neck issues, this was the best season of his career. The Dallas Cowboys have released Vander Esch following his six-season NFL career, in which he appeared in just 72 games.
Without a doubt, Leighton Vander Esch is one of the NFL’s best off-ball linebackers when he’s healthy. Some have speculated if he should or should stay in the NFL due to a recurrent neck ailment he has had since college. He is one of the most intelligent and skilled players on any NFL field he has set foot on, and his cerebral play on the field is astounding since his draft selection.
Leighton Vander Esch would significantly improve the depth of the linebacker position for the Green Bay Packers if he could remain healthy. Due to his troublesome neck ailment, which is extremely sensitive, there is a good likelihood he will choose to retire. However, if he waits until later in the season to treat his neck, he could be able to sign with a club that really needs a linebacker and have a significant effect.
