Flacco will be remembered fondly, however, as he stepped in down the stretch and led the Browns to a record of 4-1. He threw for over 300 yards in three straight games, lighting up the scoreboard during his tenure under center in Cleveland.
The 39-year-old quarterback was sensational for the Browns in 2023 after coming off the couch to fill in for Deshaun Watson, which led to his being named the AP Comeback Player of the Year.
Flacco is exactly the kind of veteran presence the Titans could use in their quarterbacks room, as not only could he keep the team afloat if Will Levis gets hurt, he could also be a mentor for the young signal-caller.
But Flacco would be very bad news for 2022 third-round pick Malik Willis, who would almost certainly lose a backup competition to the former Super Bowl MVP — and that could also lead to Willis getting cut.
The Cleveland Browns have signed a backup quarterback, and his name is not Joe Flacco. And the NFL rumor is the Browns never even gave Flacco a formal offer to return to the team.
Actually, it is not even a rumor. According to his agent, Cleveland, while they had talks, did not present the 40-year-old quarterback with a contract.
Instead, the Browns opted to sign former first overall pick Jameis Winston to a one-year deal that could be worth up to $8.7 million. Flacco will continue to look for another team after a magical six-game run with the Browns that ended in a playoff loss to the Houston Texans.
