During the 2024 NFL offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers may wind up making some significant moves.
Concerns regarding their quarterback issue arose during their meeting with Russell Wilson.
Diontae Johnson appears to be a potential trade possibility at this pont.
They’ve also already cleared quite a bit of cap space with cuts during this offseason.
One sportsbook seems to think that the Steelers could use that space to make a big splash at a position where they’re already pretty strong.
Following his first season in Chicago, Mack’s career endured somewhat of a slump. In his debut season with the Bears, he recorded 12.5 sacks; however, in his next three seasons, he failed to reach double digits.
Because of this, the Bears had to give up a lot more to acquire him from the Raiders, and instead traded him to the Chargers for a second-round pick.
He hadn’t reached double digit sacks for four seasons before to his first season in Los Angeles.
He had a fantastic 2023 season after that.
Mack finished the season with a career-high 17 sacks and 36 pressures. He was nominated to the Pro Bowl and finished ninth in the Defensive Player of the Year vote as a result of his outstanding play.
Unfortunately, given how pricey it would be to have him around in 2024, that probably won’t be enough to persuade the Chargers to doso.
Mack’ contract carries a cap hit just over $38.5 million and the Chargers can save more than $23 million if they cut him.
If the Chargers decide to move on, Mack should have plenty of interested suitors, but it would be very surprising if the Steelers were one of them.
Over the course of the offseason, there will be plenty of rumors that arise with varying levels of believability.
This feels like one that has no believability at all.
Mack is obviously a talented pass rusher, but that’s one of the few things that the Steelers have plenty of right now.
