Schmitz was passionate about vehicles and technology even as a young child growing up in London. She played water polo at Croydon High School and was an excellent player.

Hannah Schmitz has an amazing resume, based on a quick look at her LinkedIn profile. She completed her mechanical engineering degree at the University of Cambridge, where she also actively participated in a number of projects, such as the Solar Team and a solar power initiative in Chile. She began working for Red Bull in 2009 as a modelling and simulator engineer and eventually advanced to the position of senior strategy engineer. Her current position is Head Strategy Engineer, which she shares with her coworker Will Courtenay every race. Courtenay will be at Red Bull Racing’s Operations Room in Milton Keynes if Schmitz is on the pit wall during a race, and vice versa.
