Before their game against Houston Dynamo FC, the New York Red Bulls have recruited defender Omar Valencia and midfielder Mohammed Sofo from NYRB II on short-term loan deals, the team announced today.
Last year, Sofo, 19, made 12 appearances for NYRB II, four of which were starts. Against Columbus Crew 2 on August 13, 2023, he scored his first goal for the team. He had scored two goals in MLS NEXT Pro the previous season. This preseason, Sofo played in five preseason games with New York and netted two goals.
Valencia, 19, has spent the last two years playing for NYRB II, making eighteen appearances for the team. In those games, he has tallied two assists. On October 10, 2022, he recorded his first assist with the team against Memphis 901 FC. Valencia participated in a number of first team preseason games this year.
The Red Bulls’ regular-season game versus Houston Dynamo FC today at 8:30 p.m. ET will feature the players. The game is scheduled to take place at Shell Energy Stadium.
