Mason Rudolph, a mid-round selection in the 2018 quarterback class, does not intend to add some legitimacy to the group. Helping the Pittsburgh Steelers win a postseason game for the first time in seven seasons is his only goal, as of Monday afternoon.
Still, Rudolph might provide his highly scrutinised quarterback group some respect if he can lead the Steelers past the Buffalo Bills and classmate Josh Allen in an AFC wild-card game at Highmark Stadium.
Rudolph is one of four quarterbacks who will start a postseason game this year from the previously highly anticipated 2018 class. On the basis of playoff victories, Allen has been the most successful team member, yet he will be sitting on the bench on Sunday. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will start Baker Mayfield on Monday night, while Lamar Jackson will have the weekend off before leading the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens into the postseason.
Moreover, fifth-round selection Sam Darnold is a backup quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, who are ranked first in the NFC. Mike White plays for the Miami Dolphins as a backup.
The Bills selected Allen with the seventh overall pick of that particular year. Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN predicted that he and Darnold would be the first quarterback selected in the draft going into it.
He remarked, “It’s like Alydar and Affirmed coming down the stretch.”
Darnold’s career has been more suited for a claiming race, even though Allen has proven he is capable of winning three crowns. He’s supporting the 49ers’ Brock Purdy, the former Mr. Irrelevant.
Rudolph trained with Darnold, Josh Allen, and Kyle Allen (non-related) in southern California during the 2018 predraft workout process.
“I see them around, and we definitely say hello to each other,” Rudolph remarked. “They’re all great guys and players.”
However, on Monday, Rudolph will
It’s safe to assume that after six seasons, draft generated more busts than stars. Allen and Jackson are the only first-round picks who still play for their original franchise. Of the 13 passers selected in the Class of ’18, Rudolph is the only one still with the team that drafted him. The Steelers moved up many selections to select him in the third round.
