Even though the Boston Celtics were one game away from elimination, Jayson Tatum presented a confident image while sitting in front of the media after the team’s 104-94 loss to the Golden State Warriors.
Over the past five games, Tatum hasn’t been the same guy. He’s had trouble scoring, has shown an unusual lack of enthusiasm when in control of the ball, and has intensified his resentment of the referees. The All-NBA wing, though, handled his post-game press conference with a poise that revealed his optimism that the Celtics can still win the Larry O’Brien trophy, even in spite of his present troubles.
True, this year’s squad is more skilled than previous ones, but what’s even more significant is that it may be the most tenacious since 2008. The nine-time defending champion Celtics possess a special ability to transform a deficit into a competitive game and a close game into a blowout one.
Take a moment to consider that. When an eight-point lead turned into a four-point deficit in the past, you became concerned. You may now relax and take in the show while watching.
The Celtics are not alarmed or uneasy if a team makes a run to close the deficit. They don’t appear anxious, and they shouldn’t be. All they do is continue running, and if they
They might be playing the first half of Looney Tunes or the ’96 Bulls. Their goal is to triumph.
Jayson Tatum told reporters, “We’ve done a really good job at staying present this year.” “We honour each and every opponent.”
Consider this Tuesday’s matchup with the 76ers. Against a team with fewer players, previous Celtics teams could have crumbled, but not this one. The poise, execution, and maturity are all there each and every night, not just on certain ones.
The Celtics have undoubtedly possessed that quality at times in the past, but it has vanished when things counted most, such as against the Heat in 2023 and the Warriors in 2022. Their inconsistent play has caused them to complicate things more than necessary in past series as well, such as the one against the Bucks.
