Damian Lillard, the guard for the Milwaukee Bucks, may be experiencing that feeling right now.
During his latest interview with Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, Lillard talked about how his time in Milwaukee started. In response to the question of whether he thought his Bucks team would have started the season on a high note, the eight-time All-Star acknowledged his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance thus far and even hinted that he was expecting they would perform more like the Celtics.
Lillard said to Mannix, “I thought we was going to be how Boston is right now.” However, I believe that I’ve learned that some things—especially those that have long-term benefits—take time. You can’t enter it with the idea that it will just happen.

I don’t think this news broke anyone’s heart, really. Lillard has a monster of a contract. When he is 36, there is a player option for $58 million. Paying that kind of money for a 33-year-old defensive liability wouldn’t be enjoyable.
The biggest beneficiaries of this whole farce may turn out to be the Celtics. They managed to pounce and get Jrue Holiday in a trade with the Blazers following Dame’s trade to the Bucks. In a minor part, Boston has had a great holiday season. He has been a reliable long-range knockout shooter and a solid defensive presence for them.

Even though there is still a lot of important basketball left to be played, it’s amusing to watch some resentment from one of the Celtics’ main Eastern rivals seep out.
It’s particularly lovely considering Lillard made it very evident throughout his summerlong captivity of the NBA media with his trade request that he had no interest in playing for the Cs. Not that it was truly his choice either, but he begged to go to Miami and ended up with Milwaukee instead.
