Throughout his two years in Cleveland, Watson’s availability has been a part of the issue. Due to an NFL suspension in 2022, he missed 11 games; last season, an injury kept him out of the game for another 11 games.
However, Watson hasn’t performed exceptionally well even when he has been on the pitch. In six starts last season, he only had a QBR above 62 once, taking 17 sacks and only tossing 7 touchdown passes versus 4 interceptions. With Deshaun Watson at the centre of their receiving arsenal, the Cleveland Browns are not likely to make a major splash in the offseason.
The expectation was that the Browns will prioritise the wide receiver position this offseason in order to offer Watson additional options in the passing game. While they might not create a major impression, the Browns can offer some depth. Last offseason, adding veteran Marquise Goodwin was a wise move. But in Cleveland, the speedster never quite settled in. He experienced a blood clot during training camp and had a concussion that kept him out of action. Goodwin had just 4 catches for 67 yards at the end of the season. Goodwin is the kind of veteran who could come cheap and maybe have an impact.
