Following the Supreme Court’s decision last week that frozen embryos should be treated as children, politicians in the state have been pushing for legislation to protect in vitro fertilisation. This has prompted comments from both former President Trump and President Biden. Trump does not hold himself accountable for this decision.
“The Republican Party will always promote the development of robust, prosperous, and healthy American families under my leadership. Having children should not be more difficult for parents—rather, we want to make it simpler! Trump stated on Truth Social that he supports IVF and other reproductive procedures being available in every state in the union.
Trump’s anti-choice Supreme Court judges overturned Roe v. Wade during his administration, and his ardent MAGA allies co-sponsored legislation that would put IVF treatment in jeopardy across the country.
“I firmly support the availability of IVF for couples who are wanting to have a lovely baby, just like the overwhelming majority of Americans—including the VAST MAJORITY of Republicans, Conservatives, Christians, and Pro-Life Americans—believe. Trump stated on Truth Social, “Today, I am urging the Alabama Legislature to move swiftly in order to find an immediate solution to preserve the availability of IVF in Alabama.”
In addition, Trump entertained Chief Justice Tom Parker of the Alabama Supreme Court and named anti-IVF judge Sarah Pitlyk to the US District Court in St. Louis for a lifetime appointment.
In response to Trump’s most recent remarks on Truth Social, the Biden-Harris Campaign called him out on his hypocrisy.
“American women care that they cannot access fertility treatment because of Donald Trump, not what he posts on Truth Social.” To be clear: Overturning Roe v. Wade by justices appointed by Donald Trump has resulted in Alabama families losing access to IVF. More than 20 abortion bans, limitations on women’s freedom to choose whether and when to start a family, and attacks on contraception are all Trump’s fault. Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the campaign manager for Biden and Harris, said in a statement, “He brags about it on the campaign trail, as recently as last night, and he proudly overturned Roe.”
