With more than $65 million in available cap space, the Houston Texans should be able to make a big impression in free agency this summer. Coincidentally, one of their primary positions of need happens to be occupied by one of the biggest free agent names available: running back Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants.
Devin Singletary, the starting running back from last season, is about to enter free agency. In the meantime, Dameon Pierce, who is in his second season with the squad, is coming off a dismal campaign.
Barkley, one of the most dynamic players in the game today, fortunately for the Texans, appears interested in what the team has to offer.
Although Barkley’s social media following may not hold much significance in the end, it is noteworthy that he is shown a desire in getting to know teammates who are likely to be interested in his skills.
Even if those stats may not be up to par by his standards, a large portion of his lack of output may be directly linked to the dearth of skill in his immediate vicinity, particularly on the offensive line.
As for the Texans, they have no such issues and could be an intriguing prospect for Barkley to join, if he is looking to join an already explosive offense.
Last season, Barkley had 1,242 yards and 10 total touchdowns from scrimmage in 14 games.
As it so happens, one of the biggest free agent names out there – New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley – sits at one of their major positions of need. Last year’s starting running back Devin Singletary is set to hit free agency. Meanwhile, Dameon Pierce is coming off of a disappointing season in his second year with the team.
