The Hall of Famer and Jason Crowe talked about the Golden State Warriors’ decision to start rookie guard Brandin Podziemski and move Klay Thompson off the bench in the premiere edition of Pierce’s new programme, “The Truth Lounge.” The two compared it to when Ray Allen was benched by the Boston Celtics during the 2011–12 regular season in favour of rookie player Avery Bradley. Pierce stated.

Bradley played a major role for the Celtics in the 2011–12 campaign, starting when Rajon Rondo or Allen was out by injury. But head coach Doc Rivers benched Allen and started Rondo and Bradley in the backcourt with 13 games remaining in the regular season.

 

Before Allen returned to the starting lineup due to a season-ending shoulder injury, Bradley started the Celtics’ last 13 regular season games as well as their first ten postseason games. Boston was unable to go to the NBA Finals, but they did manage to force the Miami Heat to seven games in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Allen unexpectedly signed a three-year, $9 million contract with the Miami Heat in the offseason after turning down a two-year, $12 million contract extension offer from the Celtics. The action made him lose his

Allen went on to win the 2013 NBA championship with the Heat, while the Celtics were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. The seasoned guard made one of the most important baskets in NBA history in Game 6 of the NBA Finals over the San Antonio Spurs. Following Kobe Bryant’s unexpected death in 2020, Allen and Pierce and Kevin Garnett ended their years-long animosity.

The Golden State Warriors moved Klay Thompson to the bench in favor of rookie guard Brandin Podziemski. The veteran guard has had an inconsistent campaign and has been a shadow of his past self on the offensive end. Podziemski has exceeded expectations and has contributed on both ends of the court in his rookie season, prompting the Warriors to insert him into the starting lineup.
