The interview with Manziel, who appeared as a guest on Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” programme, was released on Wednesday. Manziel addressed a wide range of topics in the interview, such as how much money he would have made with NIL and his apology to a number of celebrities, including Skip Bayless and LeBron James. However, the former Heisman Trophy winner also revealed something shocking.

To start with, by accepting such a deal, they would have been in violation of NCAA regulations. Two, Manziel wasn’t a committed athlete at the time—he was hardly even a student. They had finished 9-4 in 2013 and his play had even declined. Three, Sumlin was likely done with Manziel and ready to move on with Kenny Hill and other recruits the Aggies had since Manziel had outgrown A&M and was uncontrolled.
Manziel claims that when Kliff Kingsbury, the offensive coordinator for the Aggies at the time, asked Sumlin to become the highest-paid offensive coordinator in the nation, he too laughed it off. Later, Kingsbury departed to take a position as Texas A&M’s head coach.
Manziel ultimately decided to enter the NFL draft, and the Cleveland Browns selected him with the 22nd overall choice in 2014. Manziel would have remained at Texas A&M for the 2014 and 2015 seasons if Sumlin had collaborated with Manziel’s family to finalise the underhanded agreement.
