North Bengal University table tennis players took home a bronze medal from the Khelo India University Games in Guwahati, Assam.
Varsity sources state that the NBU paddlers qualified for the semifinals versus Chandigarh University after defeating the Calcutta University squad 3-1 in the quarterfinal
s.However, the NBU guys fell short against the Chandigarh team 3-2 in the semifinal. They were able to win the bronze medal as a result, according to Bibekananda Ghosh, assistant secretary of the NBU sports body.
The NBU squad that took home the bronze at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati was made up of Sinchan Sarkar, Samrik Saha, Soumyadeep Sarkar, Kaushik Chhetri, and Jayabrata Bhattacharya from Siliguri College.
The team was coached by Dulal Goswami and managed by Shantanu Bose.
This year, the Khelo India University Games are being held in the Northeast states by the Union Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
The Games were set to conclude on February 19, having begun on February19.
Lily Zhang is the first table tennis player to qualify for the U.S. team for the Paris Games, where she can become the first American in her sport to compete in four Olympics.
Zhang, a 27-year-old from California, qualified as the highest-ranked American woman in the top 50 of the International Table Tennis Federation rankings. She is 35th, three spots ahead of Amy Wang.
