The NFL Scouting Combine will begin on February 27. While quarterbacks and the order of the top picks in the first round will dominate much of the talk surrounding the draft, the Browns’ first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft will not occur until the second round, at No. 54 overall.
However, Daniel Jeremiah, an NFL Network analyst, thinks that a few front seven players might be considered for Cleveland’s selection at that spot.
“The second-round groupings, if we’re looking at the Cleveland Browns, you’re looking at some (defensive tackles), maybe some linebackers,” Jeremiah stated.
Jeremiah listed four players that the Browns would find interesting inside that range of their first pick: Braden, a defensive tackle for Florida State,
moved outside of the MAC. He is an extremely talented player. He too has an unusual test. He will mix nicely in testing. However, really fast, shoots, gaps, chase, effort. able to perform in all positions. He locates the ball. He has excellent instincts. A solid player who had an excellent week in the Senior Bowl despite not being very lengthy. Thus, he is among that group.
Jeremiah also highlighted Smith of LSU as a defensive tackle option. Standing at 6 feet 6 inches and 315 pounds, Smith recorded 27 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two passes defensed by the end of the 2023 campaign. The methods used in the draft may also change depending on how free agency plays out.
With the linebackers, it’s a similar story. On March 13, five of the Browns’ eight linebackers—Anthony Walker Jr., Matthew Adams, Jordan Kunaszyk, and Jacob Phillips—will be eligible to sign as unrestricted free agents.
