Updates: Fehoko activated, Vaughn moved to IR

In tandem with moving rookie running back Deuce Vaughn to the injured reserve list, the Dallas Cowboys promoted rookie defensive lineman Viliami Fehoko Jr. to the 53-man roster from the injured reserve list.

Wednesday marked the end of Fehoko’s 21-day practice window, which resulted in his activation onto the 53-man roster. Fehoko has been on the injured reserve since November 18. Fehoko, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, is still awaiting his NFL debut.

Vaughn, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, will be placed on injured reserve after participating in seven games during his rookie campaign. On Saturday against the Lions, he gained two yards through rush and one yard through reception.

The Dallas Cowboys were able to secure their 11th victory of the season and a shot at winning the NFC East in Week 18 thanks to the Detroit Lions’ botched two-point conversion attempt that went viral on Saturday night.

Not unlike when Chuma Edoga was penalised for failing to declare as eligible during a late-game stretch in which Dallas was trying to construct a fourth-quarter comeback in Week 9 against the Eagles, this is what happened to the Cowboys.

The Cowboys have learnt from it, and their victory over the Lions only serves to reinforce their resolve to ensure that Dallas is never the victim of such an incident again.

“Observe our match in Philadelphia,” Mike McCarthy, the head coach, remarked. We like to highlight it because of the communication involved. It is unacceptable to make those errors. You’ll constantly emphasise those points since that’s the longest substitution you’ll have, all the way to the goal line.”

Following the Cowboys’ 20-19 victory over the Detroit Lions, left guard Tyler Smith told reporters in the locker room that he had strained his plantar fascia and that he will have imaging on Sunday to ascertain the extent of the injury. Smith expressed confidence that it won’t be a long-term problem, but it goes without saying that the playoffs and his availability for those game or games will take priority over the Washington game the following week.

Following a deep pass from Dak Prescott to Brandin Cooks that went incomplete, Smith became injured and hobbled off the field early in the third quarter. Smith’s hamstring injury kept him out of the first two games of the season.

Against the Detroit Lions, the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line just gained a significant piece back. Tyron Smith is active and cleared for Week 17 after being listed as questionable due to a back issue. Smith missed the Week 16 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

With Rico Dowdle out due to an ankle injury, the Cowboys will have all of their starting offensive lineman available for the eighth time in the previous eight games. However, this leaves their running back group severely lacking.

Johnathan Hankins, who is currently healing from a high ankle sprain, will be joined by Dowdle on the sidelines against the Lions. However, Dowdle’s absence means that rookie halfback Deuce Vaughn will be added to the gameday roster on Saturday

The Cowboys’ inactives include Trey Lance, who is the backup quarterback, Matt Waletzko, Eric Scott, Noah Igbinoghene, and Asim Richards.
