On the third day of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Eagles made a trade that altered the dynamic in the running back room. In return for a seventh-round pick in 2023 and a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Detroit gave up D’Andre Swift and a seventh-round pick (Texas defensive tackle Moro Ojomo). The NFL has attempted to lower the amount of kickoffs by implementing significant rule modifications in an effort to lower concussions throughout the league. The issue is that it has all but removed one of football’s most thrilling plays at times.

Consequently, the NFL will reevaluate implementing the XFL kickoff rule, which significantly alters kickoff alignment. That’s what the Washington Post reported on Friday.

According to the XFL rule, all players on a team must line up five yards away from one another, with the exception of the kicker and kickoff returner. Since kickoffs are one of the football plays most likely to result in head injuries, this alignment helps to avoid the kind of high-speed, full-spring impacts.
