Wayne Rooney addressed rumours that he is supposedly in negotiations for a high-profile boxing match during his appearance on the Overlap podcast Stick To Football.

The popular YouTube show hosted Rooney, who was recently fired from his position as manager of Birmingham City. Rooney talked about his playing and managerial careers, as well as many of the highs and lows of his illustrious career. However, Gary Neville and company were eager to find out if Rooney would be boxing anytime soon.

Prior to this episode, Eddie Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, admitted to the Overlap show that Rooney had messaged him before about taking on a possible fight. He said, “I’ve actually spoken to Wayne a few times about the Jake Paul fight.” Usually at night, after a few glasses of red wine, he will send me a message saying, “Listen, I wanna fight that geezer.” Wayne is capable of fighting; he has participated in a few amateur bouts. However, his matchup with Jake Paul at Old Trafford is actually feasible.

Hearn’s

accusations were supported by earlier stories published in the Mirror last week, which said that Rooney was in talks to fight KSI. Now, the former Manchester United attacker has addressed the rumours. “Are you going to be a boxer?” Neville inquired. Will you engage in combat? Rooney replied with a smile, “You never know! No, they have contacted you and inquired. But I believe that right now, rather than boxing, I would like to concentrate on returning to managing. They have maintained communication, as Misfits have been widely reported. My goal is to return to the management field. My first goal is to resume playing football.

Rooney is currently looking for his next opportunity after Birmingham City fired him after just 15 games. At the age of 38, he has already held managerial positions at three different clubs: Derby County, DC United, and Birmingham. He has stated that he wants to return to management as soon as feasible.
