American football coach Daniel Allen Campbell, a former tight end, was born on April 13, 1976. Since 2021, he has served as head coach of the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He was an assistant coach with the Miami Dolphins from 2010 to 2015, most recently as the interim head coach and tight ends coach. He also worked as the tight ends coach and associate head coach for the New Orleans Saints from 2016 to 2020. During the 2023 season, Campbell guided the Lions to their second-ever NFC championship appearance, their first playoff victory since 1991, and their first division title since 1993.
Campbell was a Texas A&M collegiate football player. The New York Giants selected him in the draft in Campbell attended Glen Rose High School, where he played tight end and tailback, and was born in Clifton, Texas.

After Bill Parcells was named head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 2003, Campbell was among the first free agents to join with the team. Even though Jason Witten took over as the team’s primary tight end, Campbell swiftly rose to the position of team leader and continued to be an important offensive line blocker.[9]
Due to ruptured ligaments in his foot, he was limited to just three games in 2004 before being placed on the injured reserve list on September 30.
After undergoing an appendectomy on July 27, 2005, he missed just 10 practice days before making a comeback to start all four preseason games.[10] Together with Witten, he was able to start 12 games as the club used two-tight end sets.
The Detroit Lions signed Campbell as a free agent on March 14, 2006. He set career highs in receiving yards (308), average per catch (14.7 avg), long reception (30 yards), and touchdowns (four), the most[clarification needed] by a Lions tight end since 2001. He was primarily known as a blocking tight end.[13]
His elbow injury resulted in his placement on injured reserve on September 22, 2007.[14] He suffered a hamstring injury on September 9, 2008, and was once more placed on injured reserve.
