On Monday, the Steelers released three veterans as part of a series of roster changes.
The team let go of quarterback Mitch Trubisky, offensive lineman Chukwuma Okorafor, and punter Pressley Harvin III.
The team selected both Harvin and Okorafor in the draft, but signed Trubisky as an unrestricted free agency before the 2022 campaign.
The 2021 NFL Draft saw Harvin taken in the seventh round. He punted 217 times for 9,473 yards, or an average of 43.7 yards. In addition, he recorded seventy-five punt returns that were downed within the opponent’s 25-yard line.
The Steelers selected Okorafor in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Throughout his six seasons with the team, he participated in 77 games, starting 59 of them.
Ahead of the 2022 season, Trubisky signed an unrestricted free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his two seasons with the black and gold, he participated in 12 games overall, starting seven of them. Trubisky gained 1,884 yards and eight touchdowns on 184 of 287 throw attempts, or 64.1 percent of the total. On 35 carries, he contributed 92 yards of additional yardage, a 2.6 average, and four touchdowns.
Nate Meadors, a defensive back, signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Steelers.
First signed on December 27, Meadors was part of the Steelers practice squad.
After the 2019 NFL Draft, Meadors signed his first contract as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings. Three NFL games—two in 2019 and one in 2020—have seen him play.
He has had spells with the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, and Cleveland Browns, the most recent of which was with the latter.
He was a player for the St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL as well.
Meadors participated in 44 games while attending UCLA. Including 116 solo stops, three interceptions, four tackles for a loss, two sacks, and 22 passes defensed, he concluded his career with 150 tackles.
For Monday’s 4:30 p.m. Super Wild Card game at Highmark Stadium against the Buffalo Bills, the Steelers activated safety Eric Rowe and linebacker Myles Jack from the practice squad to the Active/Inactive Roster. Following the game, both will return to the practice squad.
Nov 20 saw Jack signed to the practice squad. In addition, he received an upgrade for the Week 16 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he had a sack; the Week 17 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks; and the Week 18 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. In three games this season with the Steelers, Jack—who started against the Seahawks—has 17 tackles, 12 of which have come from solo stops, a sack, and a tackle for a loss.
