On Wednesday, the LA Lakers and Utah Jazz played their third and final game of the season. As the two contenders vie for the last play-in berths, the season series victor can have a significant advantage in the closing stages. Prior to the contest, LA and Utah were level at 1-1.
Even in LeBron James’ absence, Anthony Davis led the Lakers to victory. The visiting squad got the much-needed lift to take the lead in the first half thanks to Rui Hachimura’s scorching performance. The versatility of D’Angelo Russell also contributed to LA’s strong start.
In the meantime, the Jazz’s bench made significant contributions to support Lauri Markkanen. Kris Dunn and Jordan Clarkson have both produced excellently on both sides of the court. Utah will be happy that at the half, it was trailing Los Angeles, 70-69.
But the LA Lakers took control of the game in the third quarter, crushing the Utah Jazz 38–23. Anthony Davis and Rui Hachimura persisted in their assault to put Utah in a commanding lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Jazz made a valiant effort to narrow the deficit, but they were unable to put together a series of defensive stops. Lauri Markkanen’s inability to find his game in the second half was a major factor in Utah’s crushing defeat, 138-122.

Anthony Davis recorded an incredible double-double with 15 rebounds and 37 points. Despite facing one of the NBA’s top rim protectors, Walker Kessler, Davis outplayed him.
If Rui Hachimura hadn’t played so well, the Lakers might not have won by a wide margin. With LeBron James out of the picture, they really needed him to step up. Also, D’Angelo Russell elevated his playwriting sans “King James.” He managed the group’s offensive and finished with 14 assists.

With 13 points in the first half, Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz but was only able to score three more in the remaining minutes. The Lakers’ defensive pressure on Utah’s top player was the event of the evening.
Even with their respectable performances, Jordan Clarkson, Kris Dunn, and Collin Sexton were unable to defeat the Davis-Hachimura display.

Rui Hachimura led the starting lineup with a +36.2 net rating, topping the Lakers’ seven players with positive net ratings. With +32.7, Anthony Davis placed second.
