Josh Heupel, the head coach of Tennessee, is still keeping an eye on his signees, even if it seems like the Vols are done acquiring prospects in their 2024 class. On Monday, he paid Carson Gentle, a defensive lineman at McCallie School, a visit. In the summer, Gentle plans to enrol at the University of Tennessee.
A player’s surroundings might often reveal more about him than his skill does. That is applicable in this case to some extent. Gentle’s footage plays, and you can’t help but notice the competition—Power-5 bodies are scattered throughout the pitch. Brentwood Academy, Knoxville Catholic, Lipscomb Academy, Montgomery Bell Academy, and The Baylor School are all in the same district as McCallie. This person has a projectable body type. Gentle is 6-4 and 250 pounds. He has played varsity basketball, track for the state, and is an outstanding wrestler. Gentle has good flexibility and does a good job of capturing the corner on opposing offensive tackles, while not being the most explosive lateral mover. Being a finicky athlete, he gets his best when he can accelerate and pursue the ball carrier.
Despite Mack’s resignation, the running back from Buford (Ga.) High School’s Class of 2025 stated he is still “locked in with Tennessee.” Mack had been Tennessee’s running backs coach for the previous three seasons. Mack departed the Vols earlier this week to take a position as the running backs coach with the Jaguars, and the team is actively looking for his replacement.
After returning to Tennessee on February 3 for the first junior day of the season, the 5-foot-9.5, 205-pound Baker expressed his excitement about the potential hire for the running back coach position with the Vols. However, he claimed that this week, he had conversations with senior offensive analyst Max Thurmond and Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel, and Heupel “really reassured” Baker that he remains a key member of the Vols.
