The 2023 season was a tough one for Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward. Heyward had the worst season of his 13-year career, in large part because of injuries.
Heyward will turn 35 years old in May and has a $22 million salary cap hit in 2023. That has some wondering if Heyward is going to be asked to take a pay cut for the good of the team. Heyward addressed this on his “Not Just Football” podcast and made it clear he is not taking less money
Cam Heyward, a defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, had a difficult 2023 campaign. Thanks mostly to injury, Heyward endured the poorest season of his 13-year career.
Heyward’s age will be 35 in May, and in 2023, a $22 million salary cap will be reached. Some are questioning if Heyward will be asked to accept a wage reduction in order to benefit the team as a result of this. Heyward clarified that he is not accepting less money in response to this on his podcast, “Not Just Football
I gave it everything I had in rehab. Heyward remarked, “I have to give things time to settle down.” “It’s over with the people who always bringing up my pay decrease.”
The Steelers can reduce Heyward’s salary burden without taking a pay reduction directly by using a variety of strategies. Heyward’s salary might be converted to a bonus by the organisation if they sign him to an extension and implement a matching restructuring. In actuality, this is merely delaying the inevitable cap hit, which must be paid at some point.
Heyward enters the final year of his deal, and there have been no substantive contract discussions between the Steelers’ front office and Heyward’s agent, Michael Perrett of Element Sports Group.
