Despite his struggles in his first professional season, the West Yorkshireman lost to the seasoned Dominic Dale in this week’s Welsh Open. However, O’Sullivan—the all-time great of the sport—drew attention to his likeness to another prominent snooker player today.

In the Welsh Open, four-time world champion John Higgins humiliated snooker opponent Mark Allen. Following Allen’s derogatory remarks about his opponent at the Masters last month, the Scottish star exacted his retribution.

Higgins, aged 48, first won the Snooker World Championship crown in 1998 and has also won 31 ranking events. However, the Scottish star has often struggled at the Masters despite winning the competition twice.

Allen sent Higgins to a record 15th first-round exit at the tournament last month after coming through a tight game 6-5 in a deciding frame. Afterwards, Allen told Eurosport: “He’s too good to be talking the way he is, because he’s one of the all-time greats, anyone would love to have a career like John’s.

It’s sad seeing him the way he is now.” In other tournaments Higgins has fared much better reaching three semi-finals this season heading into this week’s Welsh Open.

The Scot defeated Allen 5-2 in his quarterfinal match, securing his spot in the final four. He was playing with outstanding form. Higgins said to BBC Sport, “I felt like I played a pretty good game. It was challenging to play on, and I felt that my style fit the table a little more than Mark’s.
