Following his departure interviews, Darius Slay told reporters on Wednesday that he was lucky not to suffer a serious back injury and that he would have missed three to four weeks if they had continued to play. The seasoned CB acknowledged that other from a few “big ass words,” he had no idea what the precise diagnosis was.
The Eagles’ ugly playoff loss to the Bucs in the wild-card round left little to be happy about, and things got worse for Philly when Darius Slay had to be taken off the field midway through the fourth quarter.
During a play, Slay took a knee to the side or back and ended up writhing in agony. He made an effort to leave the pitch on his own, but he was unable to get very far and eventually required the cart to return to the locker room. After the incident, the sideline emerged onto the pitch to cheer on their teammates, startling them out of their stunned expressions.
After the Cowboys game in early December, the seasoned CB underwent knee surgery and was cleared to play again in the postseason. Slay finished Monday night with six total tackles, but his first-half performance was greatly aided by Mike Evans’s many pass drops.
Slay nearly departed Philadelphia in the offseason, and a Round 1 matchup is probably in store.
