In a statement, head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed that the Cleveland Browns had hired offensive line coach Andy Dickerson and assistant offensive line coach Roy Istvan.
The Browns signed Dickerson, who has been a key component of the offensive line play and run games for both the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks, to replace Bill Callahan, who is leaving to work with his son as the offensive line coach of the Tennessee Titans. He even went through an interview process for the Cleveland offensive coordinator position.
When we first met, Andy’s experience and background regarding our offensive coordinator post really impressed us all. He was one of the first people I called when our offensive line position became available. Andy is passionate about teaching and will infuse our linemen with his enthusiasm and energy. He is aware of the high bar that must be met by that room for our offence to succeed, and we can tell he is thrilled to be back in the building with this group.
Dickerson brings Istvan with him, who accepted a side job after five years with the Philadelphia Eagles working with one of the finest in the business. Istvan brings a wealth of knowledge from his time spent studying with Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland.
There is no replacing Callahan, so life without the legendary offensive line coach will be worth watching. However, pulling in Dickerson and Istvan to take the baton and run with it is quite the start to the new era in Cleveland.
Just like in years past the Browns offense seemed to be in the redzone all the time but Ridley had an average depth of target of 13.9 yards last year. In other words Ridley attacks and wins deeper down the field as compared to other wide receivers and that’s exactly what the doctor ordered for Cleveland.
