The Detroit Lions were playing in their first Super Bowl in their storied history, and they were about to experience glory for the first time in almost thirty years. In fact, they were just thirty minutes away from securing a 17-point lead at the San Francisco 49ers’ stadium and making it to the Super Bowl.
Regretfully, they gave up 27 points in a row in the second half, and the Niners won an unbelievable game that will go down in history because of how drastically the Lions crumbled.

For the first time in their history, the Detroit Lions were poised for success.
When Lions coach Dan Campbell decided to play two fourth-and-short opportunities rather than attempt two field goals that would have kept him in control of the game, the fans’ smiles turned to long faces, and just as the television broadcast shared the fans’ joy during the first half, it also started to share the faces of sadness and even tears of frustration as the game slipped from their hands in the fourth quarter.
Even after the game, a photo of Eminem sporting a Detroit jersey and throwing the finger to Niners supporters who were incredibly criticising his team’s loss went viral.
Famously stating at his initial news conference nearly three years ago that his teams would kick in the teeth and bite the kneecaps of opponents, Dan Campbell’s enthusiasm has been on full display ever since he was hired as coach of the Detroit Lions.
