Ohio’s Cleveland — According to a league source who spoke to Cleveland.com, Bill Callahan, the offensive line coach for the Browns and possibly the greatest in the industry at his position, is joining his son Brian Callahan, the new head coach of the Titans, in Cleveland.
The Browns gave Callahan, who has coached their offensive line for the previous four seasons, permission to speak with his son, who has always expressed a desire to collaborate with his father. Around seven o’clock in the evening, the details were sorted out, and Bill Callahan was brought on as the Titans’ newest assistant to work under Brian, the former Bengals offensive coordinator. In Tennessee, Bill will also coach the offensive line.
Even though Callahan was still bound to the Browns through 2024, it was a rare chance for the father and son to collaborate for the first time in Tennessee, and the team was not going to let it pass.
This Monday, at his inaugural news conference, Brian Callahan broke down in tears as he spoke about his father, telling the reporters, “You want to be like your dad.” They both treasure the fact that “not many fathers and sons get to be head coaches in the NFL,” he said.
His father’s response, he added, “was cool.” I’m not sure how many fathers and sons have led NFL teams as head coaches. It’s not many, in my opinion. And for him to be connected to that is truly a source of pride.
Joel Bitonio, the All-Pro left guard for the Browns, stated at the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards on January 24 that he would sympathise with Callahan if he went to be with his son.
Bitonio remarked, “He’s helped develop a bunch of us on the line and we’re thankful for that.” He is among the most diligent workers. I understand that he dedicates a lot of time to us and plays a significant role in our run game, scheme, and protections, but your son was hired as head coach, and I know that the players and the organisation value his contributions. Hopefully, he will be back for us next season.
