NFL quarterback Matthew Stafford, who won the Super Bowl, and podcaster Kelly Stafford were college sweethearts who met at the University of Georgia and got married in 2015. Since then, they’ve welcomed four daughters: Sawyer and Chandler, Hunter, Tyler, and Sawyer. Matthew’s wife and daughters are his biggest supporters and can frequently be seen yelling at him during football games.
“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them,” Matthew stated to PEOPLE in February 2022 during a press conference.
Kelly shared similar thoughts on Instagram a year later, referring to Matthew as her “rock.”
In honour of her husband’s 35th birthday, she wrote, “One of the most underrated things in this life is having someone you can always depend on.” “We are so incredibly lucky to have you as our rock … someone we can always lean on, snuggle with, make us feel safe and be our comfort.”

They’ve been together since college.
Since their time as students at the University of Georgia, when Matthew became the first true freshman quarterback to start for the Georgia Bulldogs since 1998, Matthew and Kelly have known one another since college.
Kelly dated Matthew’s backup quarterback at University of Georgia when the pair was on break. In an interview, she said that she “dated the backup to piss him off” and that she and Matthew “went back and forth there for a little bit with the love-hate.”
“Although I’ve always loved Matthew, I told myself I had to let go since this was never going to work. It succeeded because I struck up a conversation with the backup, who was the exact opposite of Matthew,” she said.
Matthew and Kelly watched Georgia defeat Texas Christian University in the college football national championship game in January 2023. For her Instagram followers, the former cheerleader vlogged nonstop throughout the day.
Kelly and Matthew tied the knot in 2015 after dating for a number of years. Kelly posted pictures from the wedding day to Instagram, one of which included her wearing her bridal gown.
Paper City claims that there was a no-cell phone policy in place at the wedding and that each guest received a customisable hat. Even a Nike shoe bar was available for visitors to use, where they could obtain a pair of shoes for the day.
Kelly summarised the couple’s nuptials on her podcast, The Morning After, in May 2023. She posted a video of their wedding on Instagram as well.
“All I see when I watch this is the man I love and how lucky I am to have a partner who is not only an incredible husband, but also a patient, loving father,” she wrote next to the video. “I think that’s part of marriage, not taking your spouse for granted, but recognising when you do and trying to alter it. I take him for granted more often than I like to admit. A constant state of development.
