Why not start taking high-profile players from the Dallas Cowboys, like the Green Bay Packers have been doing for years?

That’s what Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon thinks the two NFC rivals should expect when Cowboys star running back Tony Pollard enters the open market in March during NFL free agency.

Given his potential, the Cowboys shouldn’t be hasty to let him go. Pollard may still contribute to Dallas’s team, as Kenyon stated on Saturday, February 3. But following yet another disappointing postseason run, Jerry Jones will be itching to make adjustments. Jones may then seek a well-known running back like Austin Ekeler or Derrick Henry as a result.

Along with former Pro Bowler Aaron Jones, AJ Dillion is one of the Packers’ two main running backs and will enter free agency in March. That’s why Kenyon listed Green Bay as one of Pollard’s most possible landing locations.

“Pollard would be a great target—especially for an offence that may lose a running back on the market—should the Cowboys decide not to keep him,” Kenyon said. For instance, it could be necessary for the Los Angeles Chargers and Green Bay Packers to replace Ekeler and AJ Dillon, respectively.

At the age of 27, Pollard, an NFL veteran of five seasons, will be back on the pitch in 2019. The Cowboys paid the running back just under $10.1 million last year, and they used the franchise tag to keep Pollard under contract through the 2023 season.

Although the double franchise tag isn’t a very regular procedure in the NFL, the Cowboys have the option to franchise Pollard a second time this summer. After Pollard launched a successful Pro Bowl campaign the previous year and needed surgery to mend a fractured leg in January 2023, the decision made more sense.

Dallas decided to wait and see about young, explosive running back Pollard, who had just recovered from his first significant injury of his professional career, as they knew Ezekiel Elliott was on his way out. But a second tag will set the organisation back more than $12 million for only one season—likely far more than Pollard is worth in the market.
