A senior law enforcement official stated that four immigrant men who were freed from custody and given bus tickets by a faith-based charity are now travelling to a town in California that is close to Mexico. The men are accused of felonies in connection with an attack on two New York City Police Department officers on Saturday outside a migrant shelter.
The event resulted in the arrest of at least seven individuals, including the four guys. The insider informed CNN that they were using fake names with the organisation and were lodging in a shelter in New York City. The identities of the four people detained this week in relation to the events over the weekend were not immediately apparent.
The defendants were released on their own recognisance by the Manhattan district attorney, who declined to request bail, according to a law enforcement source. Despite the fact that the defendants may be travelling to Mexico through Calexico, California, and that they may have used false names when registering with the charity, investigators claim that “we have no legal authority to chase them or attempt to stop them.”
The insider said, “We have to assume they intend to return to court, which seems unlikely given the circumstances surrounding their departure.”
US Customs and Immigration did not respond to requests for comment.
The lawsuit stems from an increase of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border and, therefore, distant major US cities, where a large number of them have travelled alone or aboard buses that Texas has rented. A City Hall official told CNN on Thursday that 67,000 migrants, out of the more than 173,900 who have entered the city since spring 2022, are under the custody of New York City.
The vast majority of migrants, immigrants, and asylum seekers aspire to be here and do the right thing. “We have to get rid of those violent people from our city right away,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated on La Mega 97.9 FM on Thursday.
The Democrat went on to say, “I think they should not have been released from detention, but the city does not have the jurisdiction to deport individuals. The attack outside the shelter “was nasty, and they should be held accountable.”
Authorities According to a criminal complaint, Yorman Reveron, 24, Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel, 19, Yorman Servita Arocha, 19, and Wilson Juarez, 21, were all taken into custody on Saturday and charged with second-degree assault and second-degree impeding governmental administration. According to a complaint, Jhoan Boada, 22, was taken into custody on Monday and is accused of the same two offences.
According to the Manhattan district attorney’s office, Yohenry Brito, 24, was taken into custody on Wednesday and was charged with two charges of second-degree assault and one case of second-degree obstructing governmental administration on Thursday. According to the district attorney, he also faces accusations of robbery and felonious assault. It stated that a 21-year-old who was detained on suspicion of robbery and felony assault on Wednesday was freed without facing any charges.
