Two icons of Canadian curling will be in Melfort in less than a month.
Legends of curling will soon arrive in Melfort
Jill Officer and Pat Simmons will be present at Canada’s Curling Day in 2024, the Melfort Curling Club announced on Monday.

“We wanted to bring a few celebrities to town who would be inspirational, fun, and decorated as professional curlers. We’ve been planning this entire festival for almost a year now and working pretty closely with Curling Canada.
Officer is one of the greatest curlers from Canada, both men’s and women’s. She has won the Scotties Tournament of Hearts six times at the national level, the Grand Slam sixteen times, the world championship twice, and the Olympic Gold Medal twice.
From 2003 to 2018, the Winnipeg native competed as a second base for Team Jennifer Jones, who went on to become the first women’s team to win an Olympic tournament (2014).
Along with Colleen Jones and her teammate Jennifer Jones, she is only one of three players in history to have six Scotties titles.
In a TSN survey of reporters, announcers, and curlers in 2019, Officer was ranked as the second-greatest Canadian female in history and as the sixth-greatest Canadian curler ever.
Alongside Jennifer Jones, she also won the 1994 Canadian Junior Curling Championship.
Officer is the World Curling Athlete Commission chair at the moment.
Regarding Simmons, he has won the Tim Hortons Brier twice at the national level and the Grand Slam twice.
The resident of Moose Jaw has also won bronze at the World Championships and silver and bronze in the Brier.

Simmons is currently Curlsask’s Director of High Performance.
Officer and Simmons will take part in curling clinics on the ice early in the day, and then they will hang out for meet-and-greets and picture ops around the festival grounds.
