LATEST NEWS: With a Super Bowl victory, 49ers coach Shanahan hopes to finally step out from his father’s coaching shadow.

In NFL history, there have been six father-son head coaching teams. Furthermore, none of the sons have been able to lead their teams to Super Bowl victories, despite the fact that two of the dads have done it.

When the 49ers play the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII this year, head coach Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers hopes to break that pattern.

On February 11th, watch the Super Bowl LIVE on the TSN Network and CTV. Pre-game coverage will start early in the day.

In addition to his 14 seasons as the Denver Broncos head coach, Kyle’s father, Mike Shanahan, was a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Denver Broncos in 1997 and 1998. He also held coaching positions with the Los Angeles Raiders (1988–89) and Washington (2010–13).

Although Don Shula is undoubtedly the greatest head coach in NFL history, the elder Shanahan has an amazing head coaching résumé of his own.

Mike’s zone blocking scheme, which focuses on motion creating double teams for blockers at specific attack points rather than blockers individually targeting defenders, revolutionised offensive play calling and helped his team rank in the top five in rushing yards gained in 13 of his 20 seasons as head coach. This is where son Kyle differs from his father in terms of coaching style.

In 2013, the younger Shanahan worked under his father as offensive coordinator. This group included Mike McDaniel, who currently instructs the wide receivers, Sean McVay, who coaches tight ends, and Matt LaFleur, who coaches quarterbacks.

After sustaining a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow during his team’s 31-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the previous season, Purdy watched his rookie season end on the sidelines of the NFC Championship last year. For him, the victory represented some sort of redemption.

Purdy never should have been in that role in the first place.
