A player defeats Burns in the Northern Ontario final to secure a spot in the Scotties.

After defeating Sudbury’s Krysta Burns 6-4 on Sunday, Krista McCarville

—seen here at the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts—won the Northern Ontario women’s curling title.

After winning the Northern Ontario women’s curling tournament and securing her place in the national championship in Calgary next month, Krista McCarville of Thunder Bay, Ontario, defeated Krysta Burns of Sudbury, Ontario, 6-4.

The WinSport Event Centre will host the Scotties Tournament of Hearts from February 16–25.

Following four ends, the score was level 2-2, but McCarville secured a crucial deuce in the fifth end and then limited Burns to a single in the sixth. After that, McCarville stopped Burns to a single in the ninth and tenth innings, scoring singles in the seventh and eighth.

Vancouver Curling Club’s Clancy Grandy defeated Kamloops’ Corryn Brown 11-3 to win the B.C. women’s curling championship.

Grandy gave up one in the opening end but cruised to an eight-end victory after scoring five in the second, stealing two in the third, and one in the fourth.

Alberta’s women’s curling champion, Selena Sturmay of Edmonton, defeated Kayla Skrlik of Calgary, 6-5, thanks to two steals in the tenth end.

In the eighth end, Skrlik took a 5-3 lead, and in the ninth end, Sturmay recorded a single. After six ends, the teams were even at 3-3.

The Manitoba women’s curling champion was won by Kaitlyn Lawes of Winnipeg, who defeated Beth Peterson 9–8.

When Peterson, a Winnipeg native, could only muster a single in the tenth end, Lawes took a 6-3 lead after five ends and was declared the winner.

The Ontario women’s provincial title was won by Danielle Inglis of Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, who defeated Carly Howard of Toronto’s High Park Club 8-7 in 11 ends.

In order to win the Quebec women’s curling championship, Laurie St-Georges of Glenmore/Laval-sur-de-Lac defeated Noemie Verreault of Chicoutimi 8–4.
