NEWS UPDATE:  A player in curling can purchase almost 9.8 million dollars in Canada.

 

At the Vernon Curling Club on Thursday, December 7, in the 2023 Everest Canadian Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships, both British Columbia rinks have earned a spot in the championship pool.

of Nunavut 9-1 on Wednesday afternoon, Wes Craig and his Duncan quartet increased their record to 4-1 and secured a position in the championship round out of Pool B. Craig defeated Ron Rosengren of Northern Ontario on Wednesday night to complete the round robin.

With a 2-3 record, Rosengren was still vying for one of the four slots from Pool B into the final pool. At 3-2 are Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador.

Bruce Korte of Saskatchewan (6-0) was victorious from the pool.

Québec (4-2) and Manitoba (both 4-1) secured their places out of Pool A. With a victory in Wednesday night’s final draw of the preliminary round, New Brunswick (3-2) had an opportunity to go with them. Ontario is tied 3–3.

In the women’s division, New Westminster’s Diane Gushulak defeated Shelly Graham of New Brunswick 1-5 on Wednesday afternoon, 9-2, to secure a championship position out of Pool A. Wednesday night’s preliminary round matchup pitted Gushulak (4-1) against Pam Osborne of Newfoundland and Labrador (1-4). Before the game, the B.C. champions had won four straight.

After a fierce battle to defeat Alberta’s Atina Ford Johnston (4-2) in six ends and overtime, Nancy Martin of Saskatchewan tied men’s counterpart Korte at 6-0. Martin aims to capture the senior women’s Canadian title for the province for the sixth time in a row.

Fourth and last in the pool was occupied by the Northwest Territories (2–3).

On Thursday and Friday, teams will face the four rinks from the other pool in the championship pool, where their results from the preliminary round carry over. Every drawing results in the top four teams moving on to the playoffs.

Thursday at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. play is scheduled. The draws take place on Friday at 10, 2, and 6 p.m.

Both events’ semifinals begin at 8:30 on Saturday. At 12:30 p.m., the men’s championship and bronze-medal match will take place. The women’s gold and bronze medal competitions will take place on Saturday, December 9, at 3:30 p.m.
