In 2024, Zac Taylor thought about handing play-calling over to Brian Callahan.
Without a question, the Cincinnati Bengals offence is a nightmare for opposition defences when Joe Burrow is healthy and has the tools at his disposal.
He has led the Bengals to two AFC Championship games and one Super Bowl in his four seasons with the team. In all likelihood, he has already accomplished enough to merit a golden monument outside of Paycor Stadium.
However, things haven’t always been sunshine and rainbows. There have been instances where the offence, with all of their brilliance, was unable to move the ball. Fans’ comments during those games usually centre around the statement, “Zac Taylor needs to give up play-calling!”
Did it happen if Brian Callahan had stayed with the Bengals during the
Dave Lapham, a radio colour commentator and former offensive lineman for the Bengals, revealed that Taylor thought about giving Callahan the play-calling responsibilities when he joined Lance McAlister on 700 WLW.
According to Lapham, Zac Taylor was thinking of handing Brian Callahan the play-calling duties for the upcoming season. “When Brian Callahan moved on, it was different. That’s what a democracy does. It’s not an autocratic system. Everyone is capable of speaking, and everyone can speak loudly. You will gain a larger voice if you can demonstrate that your voice deserves it, like Dan Pitcher did.
Given that this will be Pitcher’s first season in the NFL as offensive coordinator, I fully anticipate that Taylor will be in charge of the offence in“I heard that Zac Taylor was conside calling the shots for the offense in 2024. However, if this is true, and he was considering giving up play calling, we could see Pitcher with a lot more power in the next few years than Callahan ever had.

Deshaun Watson Sends Strong Message to Browns Front Office
ee Higgins is at the top of the free agent wish list for Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. Higgins will be a free agent this offseason and he will have suitors after a strong four years with the Cincinnati Bengals. In that time, he caught 257 passes for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns, going over 1,000 yards in two seasons. Higgins was a topic of conversation on Watson’s podcast “QB Unplugged” and the Browns star made a public plea for him to sign with Cleveland. “You know what’s up with us man. I know you are down to roll. We want to pass the ball and are going to pass it a lot,” Watson said on the episode, which went live on January 26. “We are going to take care of you. The Cleveland fans will love you to death and we have the Clemson ties. We didn’t get to play with each other but this is our opportunity. Come on over to The Land.” It’s a message to Cleveland’s front office that Watson wants more weapons. The Browns already have Pro Bowler Amari Cooper as their top pass-catcher but could use a reliable threat like Higgins to beef up their attack. Watson is expected back for training camp after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. He’s appeared in just 12 games with the Browns since being acquired via a blockbuster trade in 2022. Watson made a similar comment on acquiring DeAndre Hopkins last offseason. Hopkins instead signed with the Tennessee Titans.

Higgins is a free agent, but getting him to leave Cincinnati may be difficult. QB Joe Burrow of the Bengals stated he anticipates Higgins returning during the next campaign.
Naturally, Burrow stated, “We’d love to have Tee back.” “He plays a significant role in our work here. Since there is no secret about our relationship, I anticipate Tee’s return. That seems to be the general attitude in the locker room. We all want Tee back since we are aware of his character and skill set as a player. He embodies all it means to be a Bengali.
In addition, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor stated that he hopes Higgins stays on to play with Ja’Marr Chase.
“Life without Tee Higgins is difficult to imagine. We’ll keep talking about all of those things upstairs. I spoke with Tee, but I don’t know any details on that. These are things that change, according to Taylor. Tee plays a significant role in our work, thus it would be difficult for him to comprehend being absent.

If the Browns wish to add Tee Higgins, they will need to make some adjustments to their cap room.
If the Browns want to sign Higgins, they’ll need to work some magic with their cap room. According to Spotrac, he is worth $74.4 million over four years in the market for a contract. That would put his season salary at roughly $18.6 million, which the Browns might not be able to afford. Additionally, the Bengals will have the chance to remove him from the market by applying the franchise tag.
Cleveland will need to rework a few contracts, especially the one with Watson. As of right now, he will count close to $64 million against the cap. The Browns may also target Amari Cooper and Nick Chubb with modified contracts in order to create space.
On January 22, Browns general manager Andrew Berry stated, “As we look at the contract management space, it’s not something that we think about just at the time or one year at a time.” It’s something you actually plan for over a number of years. We see that as a strategic advantage and will keep conducting business in a way that optimises the team. We are extremely optimistic in that area.
The Browns have some work ahead of them if Watson wants Higgins and a few more new weapons.
