The Scottish Gossip on Friday
The gossip section for Thursday

On Friday night, Chelsea hosts Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge in the second of two huge cup matches in SW6 that will take place over the course of four days. We defeated Middlesbrough handily on Tuesday, securing our spot in the Carabao Cup final ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup fourth round meeting.

The Blues overcame a one-goal deficit from the first leg and defeated our opponents 6-1 to completely erase that disadvantage.

Even though Mauricio Pochettino won’t be getting carried away, our head coach thinks that the Blues could benefit greatly from a large margin of victory because turning possession into goals has proven to be a problem for his team on occasion this season, keeping us from getting the results our performances have sometimes deserved.

Watch Mauricio’s news conference live before Friday’s FA Cup fourth-round encounter at Stamford Bridge vs Aston Villa.

“It’s always just a matter of time,” he said. Before the Middlesbrough match, all the statistics and records were bad; it seems like there are now a lot of positive ones. That’s the thing with football; everything that didn’t look good at first appears good when you score goals and win games.

“For us, the most crucial thing is that we have to be realistic in both situations and that we won’t be changing our assessments or our future plans.”

Naturally, though, I’m glad because I believe we deserved it. Our performance was one thing, but our post-performance outcomes were quite another. We are a team that is still developing, therefore there are just too many things that we need to properly manage and compete.

“To realise that we can get better, we need to live together in this moment.” It will always be crucial to score six goals in order to boost self-esteem and demonstrate to ourselves that we are capable of scoring in each and every attacking play. It’s not that we can’t score in whatever offensive scenario we face; just the contrary. We must believe that every time we have the ball, we must attempt to score or end by scoring.

Therefore, it was significant since it increases our sense of trust and confidence. The performance was excellent right from the start of the season, but we needed to be more clinical. We will win the games that we may not have won in the past if we start scoring goals now.

Pochettino is also aware that tomorrow, when we play Aston Villa, a team that has been playing well, might be particularly crucial for our confidence boost. Aston Villa is presently fourth in the Premier League and has been many people’s surprise package.

It hasn’t shocked me in the slightest since, in my opinion, Unai Emery is among the world’s top managers and is creating a very strong organisation at Aston Villa.

They are performing and winning games because they have fantastic players and a very clear vision for Aston Villa. Thus, I’m not surprised. Because I know him and everyone else working on this project well—there are a lot of Spanish guys there—I am really thrilled for him and everyone else.

We are thrilled that they are performing so well because we know them rather well. It’s a variety of factors, including the players’ calibre, style of play, and philosophy of football.

However, it seems like a pretty strong team with well-defined concepts. and then older players who also included younger players. The team consists of excellent players who are putting in excellent performances.

He also used Aston Villa’s most recent trip to Stamford Bridge, a Premier League match that ended with a close 1-0 loss for the Blues due to Malo Gusto’s red card, which left us playing with a man down for the last 30 minutes, as an illustration of the impact a little self-assurance in the opposing box can have.

Even with one fewer player, I believe we should have won this kind of game. With Malo off the field in the second half, we had several opportunities to score. We gave an excellent performance and should have won, but since we were not successful, Birmingham gained confidence. We were worthy of more, and that assurance could have contributed to our current situation.

Because they were clinical in their second-half moves and we were unable to score, it was an equal game that they won. Although I believe we should have gotten more, they deserve all the praise for what they are doing. I have discovered that playing with 10 men is not an option when facing a side like Aston Villa, since they have the ability to penalise you.
