DALLAS COWBOYS ENGAGE IN TALK
Days have passed since the Dallas Cowboys’ most recent playoff defeat to the Green Bay Packers, and the team is left wondering, “What now?”

Following the team’s 48-32 defeat to the Packers, a few supporters demanded a quarterback switch in addition to a change in Mike McCarthy’s head coaching position.

CowboysSi.com has already examined the various options surrounding Dak Prescott’s impending contract predicament this offseason. It’s likely that Prescott will continue to start for the Cowboys in the quarterback position going ahead.

McCarthy continues to have faith in his quarterback despite Prescott’s dismal performance in the postseason, which drops his record to 2-5.

“I firmly believe in Dak,” remarked McCarthy. “I believe this offence has fit him well, and he has obviously gone another step. The areas where we can make improvements are in a system designed to help quarterbacks succeed. We are therefore enthusiastic about the growth potential that we both perceive for the future.

Dak had the best regular season of his career in his first season with the “Texas Coast Offence,” even with the disappointing playoff exit.

In addition to having a career-best completion % (69.5), a career-high passing yard total (4,516), his highest-ever quarterback rating (105.7), and the fewest interceptions in his last three seasons, Prescott finished the season with 36 throwing touchdowns—one short of his career high.

Dak led the football team with the highest scoring offence, so that must mean something, right?

McCarthy’s faith in his quarterback may have something to do with the fact that Prescott didn’t “take off” on his MVP surge until after the Week 5 disaster against the San Francisco 49ers due to a number of tweaks made over the bye week.

In the first season of McCarthy’s scheme, Dak was a candidate for MVP and was selected to the Second Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl. Honestly, Dak has never looked better than he does now that he has McCarthy in his ear. Although the details of a second season of that are unknown, the groundwork has been established.

McCarthy will now need to convince Prescott to play better football than he did this season, going into what may be the most pressure-filled season in terms of expectations since joining Dallas.
McCarthy needs Dak as he enters his last year under contract.

Currently under the same deal, Dak is dependent on Big Mike.

Even while it sounds like a big ask, if McCarthy thinks Dak is “the guy” moving forward, then adjustments will be made to ensure that Prescott and the offence return even stronger in 2024.
Why? McCarthy’s job now hinges on it, for that reason. And Dak’s might, too, in a way.
