Even when you have very low expectations, the Packers will find a way to leave you wanting more.
It was the Packers’ day to win yesterday. They need to be getting ready for an NFC Championship Game that they can definitely win. However, they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot, just like the club we have grown to know over the season.
If you were to replicate the game from yesterday, Green Bay most likely defeats the 49ers eight times out of ten. It is absurd for a team that started as road underdogs down 9 points. They were superior in all facets of the game; in spite of missing a devastating 41-yard field goal, their special teams defeated the 49ers.
Unfortunately, though, the Packers have the league’s youngest roster going into the 2024 offseason, along with more draft capital and fewer expiring free agents than any other playoff team. Perhaps most importantly, though, they have already played two key playoff games.
The Baby Packers have experienced both victory and defeat in the postseason. Every former NFL player will attest to the importance of that experience. One of the last pieces of the Super Bowl window puzzle is losing in the playoffs. Brian Gutekunst is about a year ahead of schedule as he starts this offseason.
What more is required for the Packers to firmly claim their place among the contenders?
First on the list will be giving Jordan Love a top-5 level contract extension. If the Packers are unable to reach an agreement this offseason, I believe they are making a very serious error. But I have a good feeling that they will.
You don’t really need to worry about finding receivers to catch QB1’s passes because he is secured. With this rookie class, the Packers struck gold, and it’s likely that they won’t need to select a tight end or wide receiver in the coming years. That is really beneficial.
It appears that Aaron Jones has dispelled all doubts about his return for the upcoming campaign. He just finished his best five-game stretch in his career. The Packers love his talents as an experienced leader. However, given that A.J. Dillon is set to enter free agency, it wouldn’t surprise me if Green Bay selects the long-term RB replacement this offseason. This is screaming third or fourth round choice.
