Murray scored at 2:17 of the third period, and Nipissing responded precisely one minute later when Lana Duriez beat Mikayla Schnarr of Waterloo by taking a rebound off the boards, making the score 1-1. In between the pipes, Schnarr was as outstanding, blocking 43 of 44 Lakers attempts.

After sixty minutes of play, tied at one, there were many opportunities but no goals in the seven-minute 3-on-3 overtime.

After a six-round shootout, Nipissing prevailed 2-1 over Schnarr thanks to a victory by Katie Chomiak.

The Lakers now have an 18-3 record on the year and are eight points ahead of the U of T Blues in the Eastern Conference.

Lakers assistant captain Maggie McKee summarised the weekend’s events as follows: “It felt like we were getting back on track and it was definitely a close game.” One of the league’s leading scorers adds, “We want to carry the enthusiasm from our shootout victory into this week and this weekend.

We have a big game against Guelph on Friday, and we want to win three points. It will undoubtedly resemble playoff hockey, according to McKee.

This weekend features a five-star duel, as McKee said, with Guelph visiting Memorial Gardens for a game at 5 p.m. The Gryphons have lost just one game in regulation all year and gave the Lakers their sole defeat in the first half of the season.

In October, Guelph defeated Nipissing 6-1 with ease.

The Lakers play them at home on Friday, and Nipissing hosts Brock at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
