Injury Report: A hamstring injury update for Tom Hawkins and Mark Blicavs

Geelong has provided an update on a talented midfielder who should soon return to the field, as well as confirmed the severity of hamstring injuries sustained by Cats stars Tom Hawkins and Mark Blicavs.

Star Mark Blicavs will be out of action for the remainder of the home-and-away campaign for Geelong, and he might not play again until 2023 unless the Cats advance far in the playoffs.

During Saturday’s loss to Fremantle, the All Australian utility came off GMHBA Stadium clutching at his hamstring; scans revealed that the 32-year-old had a high-grade hamstring strain.

Positive performances in the VFL team’s decisive victory over the weekend, according to Footy manager Simon Lloyd, would give some reassurance before the crucial match against Port Adelaide.

Mark reported on Tuesday that he had a high hamstring strain.

Although it’s regrettable, we will provide updates on their development as they complete their rehabilitation in the upcoming weeks.

Many of the players who put on some outstanding displays against the Northern Bullants will be vying for playing time this weekend against Port Adelaide.

Having participated in all of the games so far this season, Blicavs has averaged 15.8 possessions, 3.4 marks, 4.6 tackles, 10.6 hitouts, 4.3 clearances, and 0.6 goals per game in 2023.

In the meantime, the legendary forward Tom Hawkins will also miss the crucial game against Port Adelaide due to a hamstring injury.

Since missing the 2019 NFL Playoffs against Richmond due to suspension, Hawkins has not missed a game due to an injury since the eighth round in 2018.

The 35-year-old will train this week and was apparently on the verge of playing against the Power, but the club has decided not to take a chance on the seasoned player.

Hawkins would be taking part in training on Friday, according to Lloyd.

Tom had a mild hamstring strain, according to Lloyd.

Both have started their recovery programme right away, and by the end of this week, we anticipate Tom to be up and running.

Esava Ratugolea and Shannon Neale seem to be the front-runners to succeed Tom Hawkins, and Brandan Parfitt, who had 40 disposals in the VFL, is probably going to fill in for Blicavs.

Cam Guthrie, a seasoned midfielder, is honing his conditioning on the track. Lloyd has confirmed that the standout player won’t be playing this weekend.

He stated, “We’re pleased with his progress and he’s tracking really well.”

“On the track, we’re witnessing speed and acceleration right now. He’s still going through his reconditioning and working through all those processes.

Now that he’s working through all those processes and continuing his reconditioning, we can see speed and acceleration on the track.

“This week would be great to have him out there, but not too soon.”

Moving forward Sam Simpson, who sustained a fracture and was unable to perform his job as usual, will also have his splint taken off of his hand on Friday and resume full training loads.

After undergoing a hernia procedure last week, young Cat James Willis will immediately resume running, while valued newcomer Jhye Clark will return to group training in the following two weeks.
