The Detroit Lions are having one of their best seasons in thirty years right now, winning their division championship. Their winning streak of playoff games emphasises this accomplishment even more. Notably, the latter accomplishment marks the first time they have reached such a milestone since their 1957 championship season. Dan Orlovsky, a well-known ESPN commentator and former Lions quarterback, made fun of the Dallas Cowboys while talking about Detroit’s recent success.
Dan Orlovsky delivers a harsh reality check to Dallas.
The Dallas Cowboys suffered yet another postseason setback before the Lions defeated Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams. The Cowboys saw their season end prematurely once again and their title drought stretch to 28 years as the Green Bay Packers humiliated them at home.
And Orlovsky made the decision to poke a little fun at the Cowboys while discussing Detroit’s success:
It does raise questions about whether the nickname “America’s Team” is suitable given that the team hasn’t won the Super Bowl in over thirty years.
Under owner Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys—also referred to as “America’s Team”—are the most valued professional sports team in North America. However, there’s a growing belief that it may be time to have a real discussion about giving the Lions that title.
The Cowboys, who haven’t made it to the Super Bowl in the twenty-first century, are a notable contrast to the Lions, who are presently on the edge of a possible trip there.
According to projections, the Dallas Cowboys will sign Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro and make a significant free agency splash.
In addition to trying to sign new players, the Dallas Cowboys have a number of offseason decisions to make in order to eventually break through their playoff barrier and contend for the Lombardi Trophy.
The biggest choice Jerry Jones and company will have to make this offseason is whether to keep QB Dak Prescott playing under his current contract, which isn’t ideal for a number of reasons, or extend him early in a move that would free up cap space, trade, or release him — which is highly unlikely given the dead money the team would be stick with.
Prescott will most certainly face pressure from Jones to accept a team-friendly extension that would guarantee him money either as a signing bonus or later in the deal to make place for the salary cap in 2024.
There is a $59.4 million limit on Prescott’s current deal that will come into effect for the next season. An extension is probably in the works before the March 13, 2024, fiscal year begins. It has always been the intention.
The two other top Dallas Cowboys talents, Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb, are approaching the conclusion of their rookie contracts. Therefore, extensions are the next item to think about.
Even if it could mean cutting big players like DeMarcus Lawrence, Brandin Cooks, and Michael Gallup, the Cowboys will still come up with inventive methods to sign free agents and the NFL Draft in order to bring in fresh talent.
According to PFF, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks Dallas ought to try its luck with the best free agent available this summer.

Knox makes a clear case for Jerry Jones and company to make a big impact this offseason with free agency acquisitions.
Jones is the “premier” defensive lineman in the NFL, yet the Cowboys’ run defence is mediocre.
Dallas’ defence was rated 15th in yards per attempt allowed and 16th in rushing yards. During the three games against the top teams stated earlier, the Cowboys gave up 193 running yards per contest on average. To put things in perspective, the Arizona Cardinals, who had the worst run defence in the NFL, gave up 143.2 running yards per game.
Stated differently, the Dallas Cowboys’ primary issue heading into the offseason is, yep, their run defence and dearth of reliable run-stoppers.
When Chris Jones starts his age-30 season in 2024, there’s little question that he stays a top player. With 30 tackles and 10.5 sacks, he just earned his fifth straight Pro Bowl nomination and his second First-Team All-Pro selection. Like he is every season, he has been a threat for the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs.

Although it’s clear that Jones will be in high demand and among the best free agents available, the crucial issue in free agency salary negotiations is how much he will earn. His market worth is $28.1 million each season, or $84.6 million over three years, according to Spotrac. Jones would therefore be the second-highest paid defensive lineman in the whole league as a result.
The Dallas Cowboys don’t exactly have a lot of salary cap room going into the 2024 offseason. Dallas is $11 million above the salary limit and now ranks 26th in the league, according to Spotrac. To even have a chance of signing Jones, they will need to make a few personnel changes and free up salary money.
Knox claims that Jones “would be an instant difference-maker against the run while also boosting Dallas’ pass rush.” “It would be difficult to create the cap space necessary to sign him, but the Cowboys should have his name at the top of their wish list.”
After yet another fantastic season for the Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas could be able to acquire Chris Jones, who might be the key to elevating a very excellent defence to greatness.
