Unforeseen: The Green Bay Coach was asked to be suspended for six months after the ruling.

The Green Bay Coach was asked to be suspended for six months after the ruling.

December 27-On Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers penalised cornerback Jaire Alexander for one game due to his unsportsmanlike behaviour after his coin-toss error last week, which almost lost the team a possession.
Alexander won’t be there when Green Bay plays the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
“We never make this choice lightly, and suspending a player is never an easy one. Regretfully, we had to take this action because of Jaire’s behaviour before the game in Carolina,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said in a statement on Wednesday. We expect everyone in our organisation to prioritise the needs of the team. Despite our disappointment, Jaire and I had a productive chat this morning, and we anticipate that he will use this as a lesson as we go ahead together. He is a vital component of our team and always will be, so we are excited to have him return next week.”

The event happened at the beginning of last Sunday’s close 33-30 victory against the Carolina Panthers by the Packers. The game’s unofficial captain, Alexander, participated in the coin toss at midfield and called tails when the referee, Alex Kemp, requested him to, but he declined to shout “defer.”
Alexander later said, “I told them, ‘I want our defence to be out there,’ and they all looked at me like I was crazy.” “I want the defence to be available, even if what I stated was rather straightforward. “You mean defer?” they ask, and I reply, “Yeah, I guess.”

The Panthers would have gotten the kickoffs in the first and second halves if Kemp had not verified Alexander’s intentions.
Regarding Alexander’s call, Packers coach Matt LaFleur said, “That was a big mistake.” That’s something you go over with the boys each time they get out there: ‘Hey, we win the toss, let’s defer.’ Before the game, I went to the officials and made sure they understood our plan. We’re always trying to be proactive in that regard since we had a similar experience earlier this year.”

Alexander was not one of the three game captains selected by the Packers, who choose captains on a week-to-week basis rather than appointing a captain for the whole season. LaFleur and Alexander did not disclose whether they were requested for permission to be outside for the coin toss or if it was given.
Alexander said, “I don’t think Coach knew I was from Charlotte.” “I mean, the guys supported me on that.” They were aware of my locality.”
Despite being a two-time Pro Bowler, Alexander has struggled this season due to a shoulder ailment. In his six games (all starts) this season, he has racked up 26 tackles, four passes defensed, and one forced fumble.
The Packers(7-8) are still vying for a spot in the wild card round. Win or lose in Sunday’s game versus Minnesota (7-8). Starting with the 10th seed in the NFC, the Packers take on the 8th-seeded Vikings.
