Unexpected: The defendant for Lakers was suspended for mishandling the couch.
This season, the Lakers defence hasn’t been up to par.
They allow 115 points per game, have an average defensive rating of 114, and opponents hit 37.7% from three-point range.
All of this was on display during the Lakers’ disastrous performance on Friday against the Nets, when they were outscored 68-44 in the second half in front of their home fans. The Lakers melted like ice cream on a Texas sidewalk in the dead of July.
Following the game, it became evident that there would be no justifications for the poor performance on the defensive end of the court.
Anthony Davis said after the game, “Our defence was terrible, especially in the third quarter.” “The whole second half, but the third quarter in particular. It’s difficult for us to recover after those players gained confidence and began playing freely, particularly when we’re missing shots.”
Is the club worried that this can’t be addressed at this point in the season, with so many defensive blunders and the Lakers unable to stop even the poorest opponents from shooting lights out?
Davis said, “I wouldn’t say concerning.” “Certainly frustration. You should be concerned if you realise you’re not a strong team and you can’t succeed. When we’ve shown what we can do and we know what we can accomplish, that’s when frustration sets in. Therefore, I find it more annoying than worrisome.”
This squad, is it good?
They’ve showed promise by defeating elite teams like the Thunder, Mavs, and Clippers, but every triumph is accompanied by an equally or worst defeat.
Though this late-season chatter won’t quiet the fan base, it’s encouraging to at least know that there is discontent and that there’s no need to fear. They want to see this club win games, and they haven’t done that yet this season.
The Lakers’ problems are beyond simple solutions.
In order to turn this season around, all hands must be on deck. This might result in a trade and improved role player participation. Additionally, Darvin Ham needs to fine-tune and maximise his rotations.
For the Lakers to avoid a play-in game or move higher in the rankings, they will need to play a lot more basketball. However, time is running out, and before long, the arithmetic won’t support them in turning around this season.
