Rejected: Eagles Couch turned down his request to remain because he made noise.

Eagles Couch turned down his request to remain because he made noise.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ season-ending collapse has placed a great deal of pressure on head coach Nick Sirianni. Nevertheless, it seems like the team’s troubled leader will hold onto his job and continue to be the head coach in 2024 despite losing five of their final six regular season games and then being thoroughly embarrassed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs.

In 2022, Sirianni and the Eagles dominated the NFC, and they are off to a 10-1 start this year. But the Eagles lost the spark that had propelled them to the top of the league after their overtime triumph against the Buffalo Bills, 37-34.

As for why his squad slid into such a deep rut at the worst time of the season, Sirianni doesn’t seem to have many answers just yet. The defence lost a lot of momentum when quarterback Jalen Hurts had a finger injury that hindered his ability to throw the ball.

It was impossible for Sirianni or his assistant coaches to devise a different game plan that would have lifted the Eagles out of their funk.

Nick Sirianni handed the defence over to Matt Patricia at one point, but the Detroit Lions head coach and former Patriots defensive coordinator was unable to halt the bleeding on the Philadelphia defence. Four of the Eagles’ late-season defeats came at a cost of 32 points or more.
