Residence Field Advantage Pays Off In Ravens’ Victory Against Texans: “Our Fans
Against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, the Houston Texans committed six pre-snap penalties.
The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Houston Texans 34-10 in the AFC Divisional Round thanks to more than simply their outstanding defence.
The boisterous M&T Bank Stadium crowd was a major contributor to the Ravens’ energy and functioned as their unofficial 12th man on defence. Five false starts and one game delay were among Houston’s six pre-snap penalties.
Roquan Smith, a linebacker for Baltimore, gave gratitude to the crowd for their support during critical periods in the game for the defence.
Smith said, “It’s big.” “It’s incredible to have our supporters supporting us on huge plays and saves. And this infectious enthusiasm here simply keeps helping us out on the pitch.”
For the Ravens, having the fans on their corner is nothing new. During the regular season, M&T Bank Stadium’s supporters caused problems for opposition teams as well. The stadium recorded the most number of false starts (19) and delay of game penalties (9), ranking first in the league.
Following their part in the victory against Houston, Ravens supporters will have another opportunity to be as loud—if not louder—when they host the team’s first-ever AFC Championship game.
According to Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, “We’re excited about that.” “Our supporters will have the opportunity to applaud as loudly as they did throughout this game. They were incredible.I felt our supporters were amazing. The silence was overwhelming.”
In opposition to a Texans offence, the home fans contributed to an impressive defensive performance. C.J. Stroud, a rookie sensation, completed 19 of 33 passes for 175 yards while almost always under pressure when he dropped back to throw. Houston ran for only 38 yards, demonstrating their inability to establish a rushing game.
The Texans’ lone score of the game came on a 67-yard punt return by Steven Sims in the second quarter, thanks to a strong defensive effort by Baltimore.
With five tackles each, Smith and teammate Patrick Queen topped the linebackers. Justin Madubuike, a defensive lineman, recorded three tackles, including one for a loss, compared to Smith’s two tackles for loss.
“That is the proper way for us to emerge,” Queen said. You should play the game in such manner. We don’t avoid discussing things like that. There was a great deal of backbiting. It’s likely that some individuals felt our style of play in the game wasn’t appropriate. That’s our only activity. That type of thing appeals to us.”

When the crowd doesn’t affect the outcome of the game, home field advantage may go undetected. That was not the case in Baltimore, and whomever takes the field at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday at 3 p.m. for the AFC Championship game—Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, or Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills—will face a formidable opponent in the fans and the NFL’s top defence.
“I know it’s going to be rocking next week in the AFC Championship game,” Smith said. But today was very big. I’ve been to the M&T Bank Stadium before, so I can attest to how noisy and unfriendly the atmosphere can be. They adore football and how it makes them feel…They gave it all they had, and that’s very important to us.”
