The quarterback rejected a Packers offer to become the NFL’s highest-paid player.
If a recent report from ESPN is accurate, it seems like Green Bay should be preparing for a situation in which Aaron Rodgers is not the starting quarterback for the Packers.
Aaron Rodgers, who turns 38 in December, reportedly rejected a contract extension offer from the team that would have kept him with the Packers for an additional five seasons and made him the highest-paid quarterback in the National Football League, according to ESPN.
According to the CBA, if the NFL MVP winner skips training camp, which begins in a few weeks, he will not be eligible to get his mandatory penalties back. He has not participated in any summer practices for Green Bay.
Aaron Rodgers, a former champion of the Packers, is reportedly angry that general manager Brian Gutekunst selected quarterback Jordan Love earlier in the 2020 draft, and he may not be prepared to stick with the team until the GM departs.
In an interview with SportsCenter in May, Rodgers said, “With my situation, look, it’s never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan.” “Jordan is such a lovely child; I adore him. It’s been a pleasure dealing with you. Love the coaching staff, the Green Bay fan base, and my teammates. An incredible sixteen years. All of this is based on a theory, and maybe we are forgetting that individuals are ultimately what give the entire thing its purpose. It is about culture, character, and doing things the right way.
The Packers would surely struggle as a club if they had to play this season with either Love or Blake Bortles taking snaps. The squad has missed the Super Bowl the last two seasons under Rodgers by a single game. It may work out that way, however, if the franchise is committed to Gutekunst and ready to call Rodgers’s apparent bluff about his desire to miss the season. Given that Rodgers has seen the organisation replace franchise icon Brett Favre with him more than a decade ago, the Packers are not afraid to make big changes at quarterback and to regress in the short term for the sake of the team’s future.
Because of his minority ownership in the Milwaukee Bucks, who won the team’s first title in 50 years on Tuesday, Rodgers will get another championship ring from Wisconsin whether or not he plays another snap for the Green Bay Packers.
