Receptionist Geronimo Allison, a well-known former NFL target, has joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The 202-pound, six-foot-three pass-catcher played in the NFL for seven seasons, mostly with the Green Bay Packers. Allison spent four years at Wisconsin after signing as an undrafted free agent after the 2016 NFL season. He had 41 career games while wearing the UW uniform. In addition, he added eight receptions for 84 yards in five postseason games. During that time, he caught 89 passes for 1,045 yards and six touchdowns.
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the 30-year-old chose not to play for the Detroit Lions after signing with them before to the 2020 campaign. The next season, he had three appearances for the squad but did not register a catch. The Tampa, Florida native joined the XFL’s Vegas Vipers last season after a failed training camp stint with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022. In nine games, he had 22 catches for 240 yards and one touchdown.
Allison spent two seasons as a wide receiver at the University of Illinois, where he caught 106 passes for 1,480 yards and eight touchdowns in 24 games before becoming pro. He moved from Iowa Western Community College, where he was a second-team Junior College All-American in 2013. He was named an honourable mention All-Big 10 selection in 2015.
On Saturday, June 8, Saskatchewan will play their first game of the 2024 season when they visit the Elks in Edmonton.
Just in time, the Green Bay Packers’ offensive line is beginning to click, and that might propel them to the NFC Championship Game.
The NFL world was stunned on Sunday by the Green Bay Packers. In postseason play, the Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys, the number two seed, 48–32. Many individuals and teams made an impression and had a strong case to be awarded the game’s MVPs. Running back Aaron Jones was outstanding, while quarterback Jordan Love kept up his wild play. By stopping the Cowboys offence for three quarters, the Packers defence made an impression. One unit, however, stood out and isn’t receiving the same kind of attention. That would be the offensive line of the Green Bay Packers.
Packers’ Offensive Line in Green Bay Beginning to Form at Appropriate Moment
Luke Butkus, the offensive line coach for the Green Bay Packers, need to apologise. Luke, we apologise. We recently reported that it seemed Butkus will not have a job after this season. This season, the Packers offensive line started having trouble around halfway through. The sight was unfamiliar to the supporters of the Packers. The offensive line of the Packers served as the foundation of the offence under offensive coordinator and former offensive line coach Adam Stenavich. Whether they were justified or not, Butkus bore the brunt of the mid-season troubles.
Butkus deserves praise because he persevered. Rather of losing his cool, he stood by his teammates and resolved the problems. A large portion of the credit also belongs to head coach Matt LaFleur. He supported his offensive line coach because he thought he could make things better. precisely what Butkus carried out. Late in the season, the Packers offensive line really got going, and they carried that momentum into their game against the Cowboys.
Rushing Assault Emerges
When Jones entered the game again, the Packers’ rushing attack had a tremendous lift in the final moments. Despite struggling with injuries much of the season, Jones returned when the Packers offence most needed him. Jones has surpassed the 100-yard running threshold in three of the Packers’ last four games (three regular season, one playoff).
A key component of the Packers’ success in the passing game has been Jones’s ability to cut quickly and make tacklers miss. However, the Packers have found success rushing the ball for other reasons as well. Jones has had excellent help from the Packers offensive line, particularly from the inside of the line, in finding seams to run through.
Inside of the Line Notable Veteran Elgton Jenkins has been instrumental in creating openings for Jones; we just featured him. Jenkins is still among the best guards in the NFL, even if he may not be the same performer as he was before to his injury that ended his 2021 season. The Packers are gaining ground behind Jenkins if they need to.
When it came to the right guard position, Butkus chose to go against the grain. Butkus switched to a platoon structure between Sean Rhyan and Jon Runyan Jr. during the halfway point of the season. Even though it seemed unconventional, the platoon method has shown to be effective. Love has been better protected by Runyan Jr. since he is the superior pass protector amongst the two. Rhyan can maul opponents, and this skill has been useful in the run game.
Josh Myers, a centre, seemed to be playing his way into the “draft bust” list. Myers had such a rough start to the season that it seemed like he might be benched. Butkus persisted with the previous second-round selection, and he began to play better. Though he isn’t playing at an All-Pro calibre, he is making enough of an impact, particularly in the run game.
Robust Performance in the Tackle Position
Jordan Love has only been sacked twice by the Packers offensive line in their last four games, all of which have ended in wins. One of the reasons Love has been so effective in his debut season as the starting quarterback is their ability to give him time in the pocket. The effectiveness of the pass-protecting strategy is mostly dependent on the tackle position performance.
Right tackle Zach Tom, the opening starter for the Packers, looks like a star. The standout of the Packers offensive line has been the second-year tackle. This season, he has started every game and has only given up two sacks. Every time Tom steps onto the field, he displays his ability to be the most athletic lineman for the Packers.
It seemed like the Packers offensive line might struggle when seasoned player David Bakhtiari went down with yet another knee injury. These concerns remained when Yosh Nijman and Rasheed Walker failed to emerge as a suitable replacement for Bahktiari. However, as was the case with the whole offensive line, everything shifted in the last moments. Walker took over as the left side’s full-time starter, benching Nijman.
The Penn State-bred tackle in his second season hasn’t had it all easy. This season, he has surrendered six sacks and received nine penalties. Nevertheless, he has shown enough improvement in his performance during the season for the Packers to consider him a viable long-term left tackle option.
Another Tough Game: The Packers’ offensive line held the Cowboys to zero sacks. It is important to take note of it. DeMarcus Lawrence (four sacks), Dorance Armstrong (seven and a half sacks), and Micah Parsons (four sacks) were all restrained. Few of the Cowboys’ opponents in 2023 were able to do it.
Next week, when the Packers play the San Francisco 49ers, the offensive line will have yet another challenging assignment. Nine 49ers players have registered two and a half sacks or more this season, which is astounding. Naturally, defensive end Nick Bosa, one of the NFL’s top pass rushers, is in the lead. Bosa isn’t the only star on the 49ers’ defensive line, either. Experienced players like Randy Gregory, Arik Armstead, Chase Young, and Javon Hargrave can all put pressure on the quarterback.
Although it will be an extremely difficult challenge, the offensive line of the Packers should be prepared if last week is any indication. The Packers are welcoming the underdog position, and they’ll play the underdog once again.
