Receptionist Geronimo Allison, a well-known former NFL target, has joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The 202-pound, six-foot-three pass-catcher played in the NFL for seven seasons, mostly with the Green Bay Packers. Allison spent four years at Wisconsin after signing as an undrafted free agent after the 2016 NFL season. He had 41 career games while wearing the UW uniform. In addition, he added eight receptions for 84 yards in five postseason games. During that time, he caught 89 passes for 1,045 yards and six touchdowns.
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the 30-year-old chose not to play for the Detroit Lions after signing with them before to the 2020 campaign. The next season, he had three appearances for the squad but did not register a catch. The Tampa, Florida native joined the XFL’s Vegas Vipers last season after a failed training camp stint with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022. In nine games, he had 22 catches for 240 yards and one touchdown.
Allison spent two seasons as a wide receiver at the University of Illinois, where he caught 106 passes for 1,480 yards and eight touchdowns in 24 games before becoming pro. He moved from Iowa Western Community College, where he was a second-team Junior College All-American in 2013. He was named an honourable mention All-Big 10 selection in 2015.

Given that both offences are among the greatest in the NFL, the result is likely to be decided by the defences. The Green Bay defence is weak. 29th in running yards after contact, 27th in defence across the middle, and 28th in rushing yards against. Dallas only revealed the latter; Christian McCaffrey of the Niners leads the league in rushing. Excellent linebackers are a trademark of the defences that have caused the 49ers problems this season. Green Bay isn’t like that. According to Pro Football Focus, Quay Walker is among the league’s worst five starting linebackers in terms of pass coverage. When covering All-Pro George Kittle, Kyle Shanahan will try to hit Walker. Jake Ferguson, a tight end with the Cowboys, caught 10 passes for 93 yards last week against Green Bay. The 49ers’ offensive line should be unstoppable when it comes to moving objects, but the running defense—which will be crucial—will rely on Arik Armstead recovering from an injury. After five games away, Armstead is back. The 49ers’ run defence efficiency rank was 31st when he was not playing. They achieved their top 10 ranking with him. Armstead is crucial to the run defence, but how healthy and how strong is he? The Niners defence has also struggled when facing quarterbacks who can improvise and avoid pressure, like Jordan Love. Green Bay’s offensive unit After nine games, the offensive line of the Packers has been among the finest in the league.
